Design Narrative

The design brief for this 17 ha residential development called for Japanese style gardens nestled into the steep mountainous terrain. The Landmarks team used heritage varieties and native vegetation to achieve this style. Existing forest and orchards were kept and integrated into the gardens, and a management plan was developed to add value and attraction.

Management of water run-off and stabalisation of steep embankments were key technical design challenges to over-come.  Landmarks proposed gabion and a series of check-stop dams to address these issues and maintain a natural aesthetic.
